Ex-Manchester United striker Louis Saha has backed Matheus Cunha to be a success at Old Trafford.
The Brazilian international is set to complete his £62.5m move to the Red Devils over the coming days, and speaking to 10bet, Saha said that Cunha has all the attributes to excel at his former club:
“Matheus Cunha is exactly what United need. He’s got speed and stamina. He’s unpredictable and he’s powerful. He’s got legs, he’s got skills, he’s got the right attitude.”
“He works hard but he’s also creative. He gives the opponents a headache to try to solve the problems he poses. He can be decisive and he can cut it in the Premier League. He’s already shown that he’s good enough.”
“Not only that, I think he can handle the pressure, and he is versatile enough to play in midfield or across the front line. That’s the kind of player that United need.”
Cunha will arrive after his best season in professional football
The forward scored 17 goals and registered 6 assists in 36 appearances for Wolves this campaign which is his best return in his senior career.
Cunha is also reaching his prime age, having turned 26 just a couple of days ago, so he has the experience and maturity to make a splash at his new team.
Head coach Ruben Amorim is keen to sign players better suited to his system, and Cunha is expected to take up one of the two No.10 positions either side of the lone frontman. You can read more about United’s first summer signing here.
United may miss out on another forward
While a deal for Cunha looks set to be finalised imminently, the club’s attempts to snap up Liam Delap from Ipswich Town seem to have hit the buffers.
Like Cunha, the England Under 21 international has a release clause in his contract but he is also attracting interest from other teams, including Chelsea.
The Blues are now regarded as frontrunners for Delap. The striker is expected to inform United of his decision within the next week or so.
