Man United Have Finances “In Place” To Wrap Up £92.5M Double Transfer “Irrespective” Of CL Qualification – Ornstein

Manchester United don’t need to win the Europa League to sign both Wolves forward Matheus Cunha and Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap, according to The Athletic‘s David Ornstein.

The pair will cost a combined £92.5m if the Red Devils trigger their respective release clauses but Ornstein says moves for the pair can be made without prize money from Champions League qualification:

“We understand the finances are already in place to do their first-choice targets, Delap and Cunha, irrespective of European football. Delap will likely take longer than Cunha to be resolved because there are so many suitors for him and, to our knowledge, the Ipswich striker has yet to decide where he wishes to continue his career.”

It suggests that United are in a position to strengthen their squad this summer despite reports that they will be restricted in what they can do due to PSR.

The club will be keen to wrap up the Cunha deal soon

Although Ruben Amorim’s side are very much frontrunners for the Brazilian international’s signature, Ornstein has also confirmed that they have yet to agree personal terms with the player.

Reports in Brazil over the last 24 hours have suggested that Arsenal could try and hijack the deal, while Newcastle are keen on Cunha too, so United fans will be hoping for a swift conclusion to talks.

Man United have plenty of rivals for Delap

As Ornstein mentions, the England Under-21 international has not yet decided on which club he wants to join. In addition to the Red Devils, Chelsea are thought to be pressing hard to secure his services.

Delap is reportedly a good friend of Cole Palmer’s so that connection may yet prove important. However, United will feel that they can offer more guarantees of first-team football.
