Manchester United are one of “several” teams who have considered making an approach for Almeria striker Luis Suarez, according to reports in Portugal.
Tabloid newspaper A BOLA claim that the Red Devils have shown “interest” in the Colombian international, along with Liverpool, Sunderland, Juventus, Atletico Madrid and Sporting Lisbon.
Suarez scored 31 times in all competitions last season, although it must be pointed out that he was playing in Spain’s second tier.
Almeria finished 6th and were not promoted, but A BOLA report that the La Liga 2 outfit are still holding out for a fee in the region of €25m (£21.6m).
Arsenal’s move for Gyokeres could determine Suarez’s future
It looks like the Gunners are closing in on securing the signature of Viktor Gyokeres and that will have a knock-on effect in terms of deals for other strikers.
United were, of course, keen on Gyokeres but the Swedish international has made it clear that he prefers a move to the Emirates.
However, his transfer to the London club could impact Suarez too. Sporting are said to have made the Colombian their first choice to replace Gyokeres.
It means Man United may have to move fast if they want to snap up the Almeria star.
At the moment, there is no indication as to whether Suarez is high on the list of targets that Director of Football Jason Wilcox and head coach Ruben Amorim are looking at.
He would definitely be a cheaper addition than the likes of Napoli’s Victor Osimhen, Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins or Fiorentina’s Moise Kean, but the fact that he has never been a regular scorer in Spain’s top tier would definitely count against him.
