Romano Claims Man United Have “Discussed” Securing “Fantastic Signing” Who Would Be A “Perfect Player For Ruben Amorim”

Atalanta midfielder Ederson is a top transfer target for Manchester United, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano said the Brazilian is seen as an ideal fit for Ruben Amorim’s style of play:

“Man United have discussed the player internally. He’s really appreciated. They believe he would be a fantastic signing – [he] can score goals, can provide assists everywhere on the pitch. Internally, they believe he’s the perfect player for Ruben Amorim…”

“Ederson is seen as one of the perfect candidates, not the only one but one of the perfect candidates for the midfield but Atalanta will not make it easy and Man United know that Atalanta is not going to negotiate now so it’s not going to be a similar case to [Matheus] Cunha – it’s not the deal for now, it’s something to see in the summer.”

Romano has also made it clear that the midfielder will cost a lot more than the reported €45m (£38.6m) that some recent reports have suggested as his asking price:

“There will be more clubs because Ederson is not only on Man United’s list; there are more clubs interested in the player, but the appreciation in Ederson is 100% confirmed, so Man United like the player. Man United consider Ederson as a top midfielder, but again, when you see reports of 40, 45, 50 million euros for Ederson, my understanding is that Atalanta want more than 40, 45 million euros for Ederson. Atalanta want an important package of money.”

How much will Ederson cost?

Italian website TMW reported a couple of weeks ago that Atalanta’s valuation is closer to €60m (£51.5m) so that does tally with what Romano is saying.

Of course, considering United will have to play smart in the transfer market this summer, it remains to be seen if they can raise the necessary funds to make a high enough bid for Ederson that his club will accept.

Man United are set for a very busy summer

It looks like the next few months could see a dramatic overhaul of the first-team squad. There are expected to be just as many outgoings as incomings.

£92.5m could be spent on Matheus Cunha and Ipswich’s Liam Delap, while an additional £50m+ will be needed for Ederson, so the club will hope to raise money from the sales of several players. Marcus Rashford, Antony, and potentially even Alejandro Garnacho could all be offloaded.
