Man Utd sign an £80m left-back

United should be prioritising a new left-back for a couple of reasons. Firstly, Luke Shaw will not be able to cope with the number of games he will be asked to play this season. He may have started every league match during the 2025/26 campaign, but he had very few midweek fixtures to contend with. The return of Champions League football will place additional strain on his body.
Secondly, it looks like Harry Amass will be sold if a team matches his £6m asking price, meaning there is even less cover for Shaw.
In that context, the Red Devils should seriously consider strengthening the left-hand side of defence. Fulham’s Antonee Robinson has been linked over the past week or so, but Lewis Hall is still seen as the likeliest target.
The Athletic have confirmed that the Newcastle left-back is still a “player of interest”, but there are question marks about how much he will cost. Some reports suggest that the Magpies could hold out for £80m.
