‘My 1st Choice’ ‘Not Happening’ Fans React As Man United Are Told To Pay £43M For Keeper “Ruben Amorim Wants”

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim wants Porto keeper Diogo Costa to make the move to Old Trafford this summer, according to journalist Sebastiao Sousa-Pinto.

Speaking to The United Stand YouTube channel, Sousa-Pinto said that Porto would be willing to sell the 25-year-old but they will demand at least €50m (£43m) up front:

“Ruben Amorim wants Diogo Costa as his main goalkeeper and he already spoke with him at that time – in January/December. He already spoke with Costa to sign for the club this summer. Porto wants €50m fixed fee with add-ons to be included.”

Some fans on X think that Costa is worth the outlay, while others believe he is well outside the club’s price range:

Costa is not the only keeper who has been targeted

Sousa also emphasised that Aston Villa’s Emi Martinez is still very much under consideration. The World Cup winner is more experienced and is available for a lower price.

A fee in the region of £30m to £40m could be enough to buy the Argentinian international and he is reportedly open to making the switch to Manchester.

Man United would need to offload Onana first

Fans should not be getting too far ahead themselves, though. While Costa and Martinez are clearly on the club’s radar, a lot hinges on the future of the team’s current number one.

Monaco were reportedly interested in Andre Onana but they have been put off by his wage demands. Unless another suitor is found, it’s hard to see another first-choice keeper being brought in.
