Ex-Man United striker Louis Saha says the Red Devils should seriously consider a player exchange involving Christopher Nkunku and Alejandro Garnacho.
Both players are expected to leave their current teams before the end of the transfer window, and speaking to Coin Poker, Saha claimed that the swap deal would have no downsides:
“Everyone can benefit from the move. It’s a win-win. United want players who are dedicated, work hard, are eager to play and who have talent. We want players who want to play well, and there’s extra motivation in the year of a World Cup.”
“I think Nkunku knows if he plays well, he can get back in the French squad for the summer. At the same time, he’s not the kind of player who disrupts the dressing room.”
“As for Garnacho, if he wants to go, get rid of him. I used to be a huge fan, but that’s over. Anyone like this, if they want to go, go. Even if you lose money, it doesn’t matter, because you can bring in a player who can behave as they should.”
Man United have a longstanding interest in Nkunku
The Manchester club originally enquired about the 27-year-old’s availability last summer, and they made similar checks in January and June.
Nkunku enjoys playing as No.10, and he would be perfectly suited to playing in Ruben Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 system behind the main striker.
However, it’s likely that any serious discussion about a move to Old Trafford will have to wait until Chelsea’s participation in the Club World Cup comes to an end.
What is the latest on Garnacho’s future?
The main concern about a swap deal is whether Chelsea would still be interested in the Manchester United forward. They are close to sealing the signature of Borussia Dortmund’s Jamie Gittens and they may not be looking for another winger.
Garnacho is very much in limbo at the moment. His other main suitor, Napoli, are now after PSV Eindhoven’s Noa Lang so there are not many options available to him currently.
In other news, Man United have joined a “long list of suitors” hoping to sign a Champions League winner
