Manchester United have finally secured the services of Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo.
After weeks of negotiations, Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg has confirmed that the Cameroon international’s transfer to Old Trafford is now “considered a done deal”.
The Red Devils are expected to pay £65m up front for Mbeumo, with another £6m due in performance-related add-ons.
They had initially tabled an opening offer worth £55m (£45m up front and £10m in add-ons) last month, but that proposal was rejected along with a following bid worth £62.5m (£55m up front and £7.5m in add-ons).
Mbeumo’s move to Man United should be officially announced soon
The 26-year-old had already agreed a five-year contract to make the move to Manchester. There is also believed to be an option for a further twelve months.
A medical is likely to take place over the weekend, with an official unveiling expected to follow soon afterwards.
A striker is next on the agenda
Head coach Ruben Amorim is keen to have an entirely new front three ahead of next season, and the next priority for Director of Football Jason Wilcox and his recruitment team is said to be a new No.9.
Neither Rasmus Hojlund nor Joshua Zirkzee scored a sufficient number of goals last campaign, so the focus will shift towards finding a striker who can help increase the club’s output in the final third.
Plettenberg has mentioned that Chelsea’s Nicolas Jackson is one of the names on United’s “shortlist.” The Senegalese international is not the most prolific finisher, having scored 13 in 36 appearances last season. His disciplinary record is not the greatest either, having received 8 yellow cards and two reds over the course of the 2024/25 campaign. Fans will be hoping the Red Devils are looking at other options as well.
