Manchester United are hoping a new proposal will be enough to secure the signature of Bryan Mbeumo, according to reports.
Writing on his X account, Goal journalist Valentin Furlan claims that the Red Devils are “set to pay” £63m plus add-ons for the Brentford forward.
Ruben Amorim’s side have already had one bid turned down earlier this month, which was reportedly worth £45m up front, plus £10m in bonuses.
If Furlan’s reporting is accurate, the second offer would be a significant increase on their initial proposal.
Mbeumo does have interest from another Premier League team
Tottenham are said to have targeted the Cameroon international, and the presence of his former Brentford boss Thomas Frank could have proven to be an influential factor.
However, Mbeumo is believed to favour a move to Old Trafford, having already agreed personal terms with United.
Of course, things could still change if the Manchester club can’t find a compromise on the transfer fee, but this new bid could potentially tip the scales in the favour of the Red Devils.
Why are United so determined to sign the player?
Amorim made it a priority to strengthen the front three heading into the summer transfer window. The Portuguese was said to be particularly keen on adding forwards who were better suited to playing in the two inside 10 positions either side of the main striker.
Matheus Cunha is perfectly equipped to play there so the Brazilian’s arrival was a big boost for the manager. Mbeumo is arguably not a perfect fit, as he does prefer to play as an inverted winger, but his goal record means he will pose a big threat from the right flank if his signature is sealed over the coming days.
