Man United Recruitment Chief Travelled To Watch 19 Goal Striker Target Last Week As Club Eye £86M Summer Move

Manchester United Head of Recruitment Christopher Vivell was “sitting in the stands” for RB Leipzig’s game against Wolfsburg last Friday, according to reports in Germany.

Bild claim that Vivell was there to watch Benjamin Sesko, who is among the Red Devils’ targets ahead of the summer transfer window.

Vivell knows the Slovenian international extremely well, having signed him twice before at Red Bull Salzburg and Leipzig.

It is believed that his close relationship with Sesko could help United secure the striker’s services ahead of their rivals.

Man United will face stiff competition for the player

Bild report that there are no less than five other teams vying to snap up Sesko, with Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool, Tottenham and AC Milan all thought to be in the mix.

However, the 21-year-old’s asking price could be a problem. Reports indicated that the player could be let go for around €70m (£60m) but it is now said that he could cost as much as €100m (£86m) after an impressive season in Germany.

Sesko has scored 19 times in all competitions, as well as contributing 6 assists. He has already exceeded his goal involvements from last season by a considerable margin.

There are cheaper alternatives to Sesko

Vivell’s visit to Germany suggests that the Red Devils remain keen on the forward, but Leipzig’s valuation is likely to put them off from making a bid. Ruben Amorim’s side are working on a tight budget due to limits placed on them by the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability rules.

That’s why a move for Ipswich’s Liam Delap makes a lot more sense. He may have scored fewer goals than Sesko this campaign (12), but he is only a year older and there is a release clause which means he can be signed for just £30m.
