Real Betis president Angel Haro has confirmed he is planning a “meeting with Manchester United” with the goal of keeping Antony at the club beyond his current loan spell.
The Brazilian will return to Old Trafford at the end of June but Haro says that, while negotiations with the Red Devils won’t be easy, he is keen for a deal to be hashed out:
“Keeping Antony as our own is very, very complicated. We’ll have a meeting with Manchester United to extend the loan for another year, to be able to share a percentage of the player. It’s about seeing the willingness of the player and Manchester United.
“The first filter is set by Manchester, and then the negotiation of the player would come, but that’s a long way off. Besides, the player is now fully engaged, wanting to win a title with Betis. When the time comes and the season ends, he’ll be able to do his part if this option opens up.”
Antony has been in good form since his move to Spain
After struggling to get minutes, the 25-year-old (who cost United £86m) was allowed to make the temporary switch to Seville during the January transfer window.
Antony has impressed with his performances at Betis over the past four months, having scored 8 goals and provided 5 assists in 21 appearances.
He was particularly influential in helping the Spanish side reach the Conference League final, bagging 2 goals and an assist across the two legs of their semi-final tie against Fiorentina.
Man United want a sizeable fee for the winger
Hato mentions the possibility of another loan deal, but such an offer will be probably be given short shrift by the Red Devils, who are hoping to raise money from Antony’s sale to fund bids for their own signings.
Reports suggest that an asking price of around €40m (£34m) and €50m (£42m) has been slapped on the player.
