Man United Line Up Surprise Swoop For Ex-Arsenal Star Amid Growing Doubts About Andre Onana

Manchester United are considering whether to snap up Aaron Ramsdale from Southampton this summer, according to reports.

The future of Andre Onana is in doubt after he was dropped for the defeat to Newcastle, and it is believed that the Red Devils are scouring the market for possible replacements.

The Sun claim that scouts have been watching Ramsdale’s most recent games as they ponder potential upgrades for Onana.

It is believed that the 26-year-old’s Premier League experience counts in his favour, having previously been Arsenal’s first choice.

There will be competition for Ramsdale

With Southampton having been relegated back to the Championship, the South Coast club are expected to cash in on the England international.

The Saints only signed Ramsdale from the Gunners for £20m at the start of the season but his salary is said to be too high for a team playing in the second tier.

It has been suggested that there is a relegation release clause in the keeper’s contract but that hasn’t been confirmed by any reliable source. Even so, The Sun report that his availability has attracted the attention of other teams, including West Ham.

Man United could be stuck with Onana

Even if the Red Devils do bring in a new goalkeeper this summer, it doesn’t necessarily mean that their current number one will be leaving Old Trafford.

The club reportedly need to raise at least £26m from Onana’s sale in order to balance the books – otherwise it would damage their prospects of complying with the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability rules.

For that reason, the 29-year-old may be let go on loan. In that scenario, it would be hoped that Onana can rebuild his reputation, much like Antony has done at Real Betis. He could then be offloaded for a much higher price at a later date.
