Man United set to limit transfer activity to three or four signings- is it enough?

Manchester United achieved their objective of qualifying for the Champions League this week following an impressive 2-0 victory over Ajax in the Europa League final, which puts the Red Devils amongst the mix for the group stages next season.

Jose Mourinho’s side admittedly fell short in their Premier League campaign, eventually finishing sixth, but the significance of that has been reduced vastly following the win over Ajax- as it means United are in the Champions League and have a trophy to their name.

It’s clear that there is still a lot of work to do this summer though and Mourinho is set to to continue in the same vein that he did last summer, bringing in a wealth of top-class recruits but not overhauling the squad significantly.

Last year, United moved to bring Paul Pogba, Eric Bailly, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Henrikh Mkhitaryan to Old Trafford and Mourinho’s side will adopt a similar strategy in the upcoming window, as they eye three or four new recruits- as confirmed by The BBC.

Atletico Madrid striker Antoine Griezmann is top of the club’s wish-list as they seek a new top-class striker and Burnley’s Michael Keane is also being lined-up for a return to United, as the Red Devils consider the youngster to be the ideal long-term partner for Eric Bailly.

Another defensive target is Benfica full-back Victor Lindelof, who was linked with a move to Manchester United prior to the mid-season transfer window, and that trio would significantly improve United’s ranks if they were to arrive.

Questions would be asked as to whether those three names would be enough but the Red Devils’ squad is talented enough to compete and has looked to be just one or two short this season, so moving for this trio would significantly improve their chances.

Griezmann would excel in attack, filling the void left by Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s injury, and the support he’d get from the likes of Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Paul Pogba and Marcus Rashford would give the Red Devils a frightening front-line.

Defensively, Lindelof and Keane could link-up with the likes of Bailly and Antonio Valencia in defence, improving a defensive line that was impressive this season- although still considered to be a bit short of the best.

Any other Manchester United arrivals are likely to depend on who leaves Old Trafford this summer and you can expect a replacement for David De Gea to be signed if the Spaniard completes a heavily-rumoured move to Real Madrid.

Apart from that, it will be a case of quality not quantity for the Red Devils this summer and Mourinho has already shown that’s the best course of practice.
