Man United set to complete crucial defensive deal imminently

Manchester United have enjoyed a very successful transfer window this summer, landing crucial signings with the additions of Romelu Lukaku, Nemanja Matic and Victor Lindelof- all of whom will provide a big boost this season.

Having won all three of their opening Premier League matches, the only side to do so, Jose Mourinho’s side stand in a very strong position for the season ahead and should be able to enjoy a relaxed final few days in the transfer window.

Whilst Manchester United continue to be linked with big-name signings, the likelihood is that Mourinho’s summer spending is done and he can focus on getting the best out of a side that has started the season in perfect fashion.

It’s a long season ahead though and Manchester United will need all of their players to be in perfect condition, which is why a reported new deal for young left-back Luke Shaw is crucial for the Red Devils.

Manchester United paid £33m for the England left-back a few years ago but the 22-year-old has endured a difficult start to life at Old Trafford, suffering a horrific leg break in one of his first games for the club and struggling to return to full fitness since.

The youngster was heavily criticised by Jose Mourinho for his lack of fitness in stages last season and is yet to play for Manchester United’s first-team this term, although he has impressed on his road to recovery with strong showings in two U23 matches.

That form has led Manchester United to decide to extend Shaw’s deal, which currently has just ten months to run, and the Red Devils are prepared to offer a 12-month extension to the full-back who has a huge year ahead.

Shaw needs to find stability after his recent injury troubles and may also have his eyes fixed on next summer’s World Cup, although he’ll need to show major improvements if he is to join Gareth Southgate’s squad for the trip to Russia.

Being handed a new deal by Manchester United should provide a major confidence boost though as it shows the Red Devils still have faith in the highly-rated youngster, who has the potential to be a huge player in the coming years.
