A lot more was riding on the game for the visitors but it was the Red Devils who took the initiative and put pressure on their opponents.

Villa keeper Emi Martinez was sent off before half-time after denying a clear goalscoring opportunity and Ruben Amorim’s side endeavoured to find a breakthrough after the break, although they did ride their luck when a goal from Morgan Rogers was dubiously ruled out for a foul.

Ultimately, goals from Amad Diallo and Christian Eriksen (in what was his final game for the club) sealed victory.
