Midfield

RWB – Diogo Dalot – 4/10 – not the return he would have been hoping for. The second goal came as a result of his poor defending down the right.

CM – Manuel Ugarte – 5/10 – was overrun as Brentford made their extra man in the middle of the park count.

CM – Bruno Fernandes – 3/10 – failed to influence the game when in possession and then missed a penalty that would have made it 2-2.

LWB – Patrick Dorgu – 6/10 – the Dane provided a threat, at the very least, but his end product remains very poor.

Forwards

RW – Bryan Mbeumo – 5/10 – very quiet on his return to his former club, with the exception of winning the penalty.

ST – Benjamin Sesko – 7/10 – it took him three goes but he got his first goal for United. That should boost his confidence.

LW – Matheus Cunha – 4/10 – had one shot saved but he was poor other than that, with the worst moment being when he lost the ball in the build-up to Brentford’s opener with a bad first touch.

Substitutes

Leny Yoro – 6/10 – was more decisive on the ball after replacing Maguire midway through the second half.

Kobbie Mainoo – 5/10 – light years ahead of Ugarte in terms of his ability in possession but he couldn’t create any meaningful openings.

Mason Mount – 5/10 – came on for Shaw in the final 10 minutes as United chased the game but he didn’t make any impact on proceedings.

Joshua Zirkzee – N/A – replaced Dorgu in the closing stages and headed a chance over the bar.
