Man United have added a new Premier League manager to their potential list of replacements for Ruben Amorim.
The United boss eased some of the pressure that was on him over the weekend, as he saw his side win 2-0 against Sunderland, to leave them 10th in the Premier League table heading into the international break.
It will certainly give him more time than many thought he would get a month ago, but the fact is that United are still underperforming, and if results don’t improve, the Man United board will have to make a decision on his future.
Several Premier League managers have been linked with replacing Amorim at Old Trafford, including Crystal Palace’s Oliver Glasner, Bournemouth’s Andoni Iraola and Fulham boss Marco Silva. However, reports in Spain are now saying that the Red Devils are lining up a different Premier League manager to take over instead.
Man United considering Aston Villa boss Emery
According to Spanish media outlet Fichajes, Man United have added Aston Villa manager Unai Emery to the list of potential Ruben Amorim replacements if they were to sack the current United boss.
Emery’s record at Villa has been immaculate. He took them from relegation candidates to Champions League quarter-finalists last year, getting the absolute best out of players such as Ollie Watkins, Morgan Rodgers, Emi Martinez, Youri Tielemans and Esri Konsa.
Villa are starting to look impressive again this season, and Emery’s reputation as a world-class manager is only growing. The reports have said that United view him as one of the best in the world, and a very attractive candidate to take over at Old Trafford.
Who are the favourites to take over from Amorim?
As things stand, the bookmakers have Glasner as the favourite to take over from Amorim. Oddschecker show odds of 5/1 for the Palace boss to be the next face of the Red Devils.
Aside from Glasner, Gareth Southgate remains a heavy favourite at 10/1, followed by Xavi at 10/1 also and Bournemouth boss Iraola at 12/1.
Emery is the seventh favourite according to the odds, with a 16/1 likelihood for the Spanish manager to take over from Amorim.
