“Don’t Be Surprised If” – Man United Tipped To Appoint Ex-Coach To Replace Ruben Amorim

Man United have been tipped to appoint Kieran McKenna to replace Ruben Amorim, who was sacked on Monday morning.

It has been a turbulent week at Man United, and we are only on Monday, as the club decided to sack Ruben Amorim following his controversial post-match press conference after the 1-1 draw against Leeds United on Sunday.

Amorim claimed that he was the ‘manager’ at Man United, although the club always wanted him to be a ‘head coach’ in cahoots with the Sporting Director and others at INEOS. This falling out, plus the recent poor form, led to Amorim’s departure on Monday, which has quickly sparked speculation on who will be the next Man United boss.

Darren Fletcher is set to take over on an interim basis for United’s next match against Burnley, but their next full-time appointment isn’t yet clear.

Man United tipped to appoint Kieran McKenna

One of the names high up on the list of favourites to take over at Man United is Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna, who spent five years at Man United as a coach for both the U18s and the first team under Jose Mourinho, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, and Ralf Rangnick.

Former Premier League midfielder Jamie O’Hara said on Sky Sports News that he wouldn’t be surprised if United turned to McKenna, as he knows the club, and the club know him. “I don’t think Darren Fletcher is going to be the guy in charge for long.

“I think they need a face that everyone knows, a face they can relate to, he’s been there, knows the football club. Kieran McKenna at Ipswich, he’s been at Man United for a long time. He was there for a long time, they loved him, proper coach.

“It wouldn’t surprise me if Manchester United look at a situation where they’d take Kieran McKenna, because they want someone who’s going to come in and be a head coach, he’s going to answer to what they want to do, you come in and you coach the team. If that’s the model they are looking at, don’t be surprised if it is Keiran McKenna.”

Who is the favourite to take over from Amorim?

As things stand, McKenna is currently the seventh favourite to be the next permanent manager at United, according to the bookmakers.

According to Oddschecker, McKenna is 20/1 to be Amorim’s replacement. In terms of the favourites, Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner is the favourite, as he is backed at odds of 9/2.

Former Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca (19/4), former England manager Gareth Southgate (12/1) and Bournemouth’s Andoni Iraola (16/1) are the next three backed to take over from Amorim. Only time will tell as to who it will be.
