Ex-Manchester United striker Louis Saha has been critical of Mason Mount after the midfielder failed to make an impact this campaign
The England international has been plagued by fitness problems for a second successive season and, when asked by Mega Dice, which player in the Premier League he has been most disappointed by, Saha replied:
“The team that I watch the most is Man United. So for me, it’s going to be Mason Mount, because he has been injured all year.”
“You know, I’m sure he is working hard, but it’s difficult. There were a lot of hopes and it didn’t work out for him.”
The United midfielder has struggled to stay on the pitch
Mount spent the best part of three months out with a hamstring injury between December and March, having also been sidelined for two other spells over the course of this campaign.
Even after returning to fitness after the last international break, the 26-year-old has yet to make an impression. In 18 appearances this season, he has failed to register a single goal or assist.
What does the future hold for Mount?
Head coach Ruben Amorim has expressed his admiration for the player on more than one occasion since his appointment back in November.
However, Mount has only started two games under the Portuguese manager. Those came against Bod0/Glimt and Arsenal at the end of last year.
Having spent £55m to bring him in from Chelsea two years ago, the question now is, does the club cut their losses? There has been no talk about a potential exit but the club need to raise funds for new signings. It will be interesting to see whether Mount will be sacrificed to make way for new faces.
