Roy Keane Names The 55 y/o Manager He Has Been Wanting Man United To Hire “For Years”

Man United legend Roy Keane says Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone would be his choice to manage his former club.

The 55-year-old is known for getting every ounce out of the players at his disposal, but he has also been heavily criticised for his ultra-defensive tactics. Speaking on The Overlap, Keane pinpointed the Argentinian’s character and his no-nonsense attitude as reasons why he wants him at Old Trafford:

“I’ve said it for years. I’d like to see… I’d like to come into it… Simeone. I’d like to see him going down. I think he’d cause havoc, but good havoc. So, no guarantee, but I just like to see his personality. I think I’ll go with that.”

“People might think football, ‘they scored five last week’, this idea that he’s defensive. Yeah, he doesn’t… doesn’t like to see if you’ve got too many ball chances. The team and his players from a few years ago… but it’s that fighting spirit. He’s on the sideline causing… you know, you’ve got to go like a big person. He gets talented players working, yeah, in a ridiculous way.”

Would Simeone consider the Man United job?

The Argentine still has just under two years left on his contract at Atletico, and you can’t see him leaving the Spanish club in the lurch, considering how long he has been there.

Simeone first took the job in 2011 and he has gone on to win eight trophies over the last 14 years, including two La Liga titles.

Amorim remains the man in the dugout

Despite speculation about his future after a poor start to the season, current head coach Ruben Amorim has retained the faith of the players and (most importantly) the ownership.

Minority stakeholder Sir Jim Ratcliffe has suggested that the 40-year-old could be given up to three years to prove himself at Old Trafford.
