Man United need to find a swift resolution to their striker woes

Manchester United have been very public with their ambitions in the transfer market this summer but Jose Mourinho’s side have endured a wealth of disappointments on the transfer front, with no progress made towards signing a new top-class striker.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s long-term injury, which could spell the end for the Swede at Old Trafford, has left the Red Devils seeking a top-class addition in attack that can help them push towards Premier League glory next season and stand competitive in their return to the Champions League.

Unfortunately though, good news has been difficult to come by for Mourinho’s side as Antoine Griezmann is staying put at Atletico Madrid, Romelu Lukaku looks to be off the table and the latest reports suggest the Red Devils have also been unsuccessful in their push for Real Madrid’s Alvaro Morata.

With three top-class targets now seemingly being off the table for Manchester United, the Red Devils are now near the bottom of their transfer list in this area and it’s becoming a huge problem for Jose Mourinho’s side.

Manchester City have already moved swiftly in the summer market, putting pressure on Manchester United, and the fact that the Red Devils now seem to be scraping the barrel in their search for a new top-class striker is a huge concern.

It brings back memories of very public and ultimately unsuccessful moves from Manchester United in the past few seasons, where the likes of Toni Kroos, Gareth Bale, Sergio Ramos and Neymar were heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford.

In the end, United failed to secure any of those targets but don’t seem to have learned their lesson from that situation as they continue to be very public with their intentions- which ultimately leaves the club red-faced when things don’t go their way.

Following the latest failures on the market, Manchester United now need to knuckle down and keep their business as quiet as possible as they seek a new striker- and it’s crucial that any deal is secured swiftly, rather than the club being forced to wait until later in the window.

The pressure is on Manchester United as next season is set to be fiercely competitive, and major improvements are necessary following a sixth-placed finish in the Premier League, and the clock is ticking- although the Red Devils still have plenty of time to complete their necessary business.
