Man United need to fend off any interest in this crucial player

Manchester United have enjoyed a fine transfer window thus far, securing deals to bring Victor Lindelof and Romelu Lukaku to Old Trafford, and it doesn’t seem that Jose Mourinho’s spending is over as the Red Devils continue to be linked with big names.

Ivan Perisic and Eric Dier are amongst the players being heavily linked with a move to Manchester United from Inter Milan and Tottenham Hotspur respectively before the close of the transfer window at the end of August, although there could also be significant departures.

The Red Devils have recently waved goodbye to Adnan Januzaj, who joined Spanish side Real Sociedad, and David De Gea could also be moving to La Liga- if Real Madrid get their way, as the latest reports indicate they’re raising interest in the goalkeeper yet again.

De Gea to Real Madrid is a transfer story that we’ve become accustomed to in recent years, ever since the dramatic collapse of a deal in the final moments of the 2015 summer transfer window, and it seems the European champions are expressing an interest once again.

Whilst it has been suggested that Jose Mourinho will not stand in the way of any player eyeing a departure, Manchester United cannot allow David De Gea to leave this summer as it would put them two steps further back in their quest to create a title-winning side.

As it stands, Manchester United are looking solid ahead of the new Premier League season and should definitely improve on their showings last term, where Mourinho’s side finished sixth in the standings and a whopping 24 points behind champions Chelsea.

The additions of Lindelof and Lukaku this summer will certainly help Manchester United kick-on but David De Gea is a crucial part of their squad and the Red Devils would find it almost impossible to replace the Spaniard if he was to leave.

At 26, De Gea has years ahead of him in his career but it inevitably looks like he will return to his homeland at some stage. Manchester United cannot afford to let that occur this summer though as it would leave them needing to bolster a defence that finally looks like it has been crafted into a solid set-up.

Lindelof is likely to partner Eric Bailly in the heart of defence, giving Manchester United a young core in the middle, whilst both Luke Shaw and Antonio Valencia are fantastic options in the wide areas of the back-line.
