Newcastle boss Eddie Howe has ruled himself out of the running to replace Ruben Amorim at Man United.
Speaking about the possibility of swapping St James’ Park for Old Trafford, Howe made it clear in no uncertain terms that he doesn’t want to leave the North East:
“I’m all in (at Newcastle). My commitment here is 100% here and always has been. My family is still here, and we are fighting every day to make a success of what we are doing.”
“The season ahead could be a wonderful thing, and that is what we are trying to focus on, trying to make a success of the games we have coming up.”
Who are the current frontrunners to succeed Amorim?
Crystal Palace head coach Oliver Glasner is the bookies’ favourite if the Man United hot seat becomes available.
The Austrian’s contract at Selhurst Park is set to expire at the end of the season and he has not signalled whether he will put pen to paper on a new one.
Former England manager Gareth Southgate, ex-Barcelona boss Xavi Hernandez and Bournemouth’s Andoni Iraola are also said to be in the frame. Read Ben Foster’s thoughts on why his former club should hire Iraola here.
Could Man United appoint an interim boss?
If Amorim is relieved of his duties over the coming weeks, INEOS and the board may opt for a temporary solution, rather than a permanent replacement.
There are suggestions that Michael Carrick could be lined up for a second spell as caretaker. He was manager for three games after Ole Gunnar Solskjær’s sacking, and he subsequently took charge of Middlesbrough for the best part of three seasons. He parted ways with the Teessiders before the start of this campaign.
