Romano Weighs In On Man United’s Interest In Manager Who Has Been Described As “Incredible” By Guardiola

Man United have not made an approach for Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

The Spaniard is believed to be one of the names on a 5-man shortlist to replace Ruben Amorim, if the Red Devils do opt to sack the 40-year-old over the coming weeks.

However, responding to a question about Iraola in GiveMeSport‘s newsletter, Romano said that United have yet to make a decision on whether to replace Amorim:

“Nothing about names now. At the moment, Man United are not changing the coach, so all the rest is speculation. If something changes with Amorim, we’ll see who they pick.”

Iraola has been praised by Guardiola

The Spaniard has plenty of admirers, even among other managers in the Premier League. Speaking about his compatriot just months after his appointment at the Cherries a couple of years ago, Man City boss Pep Guardiola said:

“Andoni is an incredible, well-respected manager in Spain and did an incredible job in Rayo Vallecano. [Bournemouth are] playing offensive and attractive football. What I see is an alive team.”

Guardiola went on to predict that Iraola had a bright future as a coach, and that has proven to be the case.

What is the current situation with Amorim at Man United?

The Red Devils’ boss is very much under pressure following the 3-0 defeat in the Manchester derby at the weekend. He continues to have the backing of the club, but things could change if results don’t improve before the next international break.

It is believed Amorim’s position will be assessed after the next three matches against Chelsea, Brentford and Sunderland. Based on what we have seen from United so far this season, getting points on the board in those fixtures won’t be straightforward.
