Amorim Confirms 2 United Players Could Return For Chelsea Clash But 2 Others Are Still Missing

Man United head coach Ruben Amorim has revealed that Mason Mount and Matheus Cunha will be back “in the squad” for the game against Chelsea.

Both players picked up injuries during the 3-2 home win over Burnley last month and they were absent for the Manchester derby.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference on Friday afternoon, Amorim said the pair would be available this weekend, but two other members of the first-team squad are still on the treatment table:

“(Diogo) Dalot is out. Mason is in the squad and Cunha is in the squad. Licha (Lisandro Martinez) is still out.”

What is the situation with Dalot and Martinez?

No further detail has been provided on the fitness of the two defenders but Dalot has not been seen since pulling out of international duty at the beginning of this month.

Portugal cited a muscular problem when confirming the fullback’s withdrawal, and it appears he is still undergoing treatment on the same injury.

Martinez, meanwhile, is slowly but surely getting back to full fitness. The Argentinian international has been sidelined for over seven months, but he has been pictured back out on the grass doing light training with a fitness coach.

Could Cunha or Mount start against Chelsea?

There is always a risk of a recurrence when returning from a hamstring injury, so the club’s medical team and Amorim himself will have to make a judgement call on Cunha’s fitness.

The Brazilian was actually keen on playing against Man City last weekend, but the decision was made not to include him in the squad.

Less is known about Mount’s issue, but it doesn’t appear to have been a major injury, so there is a chance that he could start against his former club on Saturday evening.
