Man United Dealt Major Injury Blow As Key Defender’s Layoff Is Extended For AT LEAST Another 6 Weeks

Man United defender Lisandro Martinez’s return from an ACL Injury may have to “wait” until after the November international break, according to reports.

The Argentinian international has already been sidelined for eight months but The Sun claim that the Red Devils are now only expecting him to make his comeback before the end of the calendar year.

At the moment, Martinez’s return date has been pencilled in for late November, although there is potential for that to slip into December if things don’t progress as planned.

The 27-year-old has been taking part in individual training sessions for the last couple of months but it seems he may not be able to take part in full team training for another six weeks, at the very least.

Martinez has spent a lot of time on the treatment table

Since moving to Old Trafford in the summer of 2022, the centre-back has picked up his fair share of injuries, including a broken metatarsal, a knee injury, calf issues and back problems.

Including the ACL injury, Martinez has been sidelined for an astonishing 544 days over the past three years, which is nearly a 50% absentee rate.

Latest Man United injury news

Head coach Ruben Amorim has nearly a fully fit squad to choose from, with Noussair Mazraoui the only other player currently unavailable.

The Moroccan defender has missed the last two matches against Brentford and Sunderland with a thigh problem, but Amorim has said that the player should be back for the Liverpool fixture later this month.

Of course, with so many members of the first-team squad playing matches for their countries over the next couple of weeks, there is a risk of more injuries, but for the time being, things are looking good on the injury front.
