The centre-back has reportedly had a major setback in his recovery from an ACL injury. He has already been sidelined for the best part of eight months.
However, it is believed that Martinez may not feature for United again until after the November international break.
Rehabilitation after ACL injuries can be fraught with difficulty and some players return quicker to full fitness than others.
Martinez has had his fair share of injuries since moving to Old Trafford, and it appears this latest setback could see him stay on the sidelines for over 9 months or even longer.
