Man United handed boost as prime-target wants to seal transfer

Manchester United have already made waves in the summer transfer market by landing Victor Lindelof and Romelu Lukaku but it appears Jose Mourinho’s spending is not yet over, as he eyes further signings to help his side challenge for Premier League glory next term.

A sixth-placed finish in the league last year, where the Red Devils were a whopping 24 points behind champions Chelsea, shows that Mourinho has a lot of work to do- but there were positive signs last season, with United winning the Europa League and embarking on an excellent 25-game unbeaten run domestically.

Had Manchester United been able to convert some of those draws into victories during their unbeaten run, then the Red Devils could have found themselves in a much better position and Mourinho’s target this summer will be to improve his squad to become more deadly.

The capture of Lukaku on paper doesn’t improve his ranks significantly, as Manchester United already lost Zlatan Ibrahimovic earlier in the window, but he’s a striker that will bring goals throughout the campaign- and he could be developed into one of the world’s best.

Mourinho is eyeing further recruits though, with speculation indicating he’s keen on landing Eric Dier from Tottenham Hotspur, but the Red Devils have been handed a boost in another transfer chase, as Sky Sports reports Ivan Perisic is keen on joining the club from Inter Milan.

United are trying to conclude a deal for the Croatian international before the Italian side jet off to China to begin their pre-season campaign next week but need to reach an agreement with the San Siro outfit, who are standing firm on their £48m asking price.

The fact that the 28-year-old allegedly wants to leave Inter and join Manchester United hands the Red Devils a huge boost though, as Luciano Spalletti’s side will struggle to keep hold of the experienced wide-man if his desire is to seal a move to the Premier League.

Perisic’s arrival would raise questions regarding the future of some players already at Old Trafford though, as it would be impossible to fit all of Lukaku, Perisic, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Jesse Lingard, Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford into a front-line.

Martial has been linked with an exit this summer, although that seems unlikely, and the issue of having too many top-class players is always a nice problem to be faced with.
