Man United signed Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford in the summer of 2025, as one of Ruben Amorim’s first major signings.
The Red Devils wanted to bring in more goals in August 2025, and they managed to do that. They signed Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo to play as a pair as the two new number 10s behind Man United’s first-choice striker.
Mbeumo made his name at Brentford, helping them to get promoted and stabilise in the Premier League. He now hopes to become a true Premier League legend by helping Man United to get back to where they need to be.
But what about Mbeumo’s career before he made the move to Old Trafford…
Mbeumo’s youth career in France before moving to England
The Cameroon international was born in France, and that is where he began to develop. He joined the youth academy at French club Troyes, aged 14. Showing himself in the youth teams to be a prodigy, it didn’t take Mbeumo long to get into the professional team.
He graduated to Troyes’ reserve team at the age of 17. In his first full season as a professional, Mbeumo made five appearances for Troyes’ first team, scoring two goals. Four of his five games were in Ligue 1, and he did enough at a young age to become one of the most exciting players in the league.
In the 2018/19 season, Mbeumo really broke out and became a star. He made 40 appearances for Troyes aged 19, scoring 11 goals and providing four assists. His excellent statistics and technical ability caught the eye of well-regarded recruiters Brentford in the Championship.
Moving to Brentford, and becoming a Premier League star
In August 2019, Mbeumo moved to Brentford, as the Championship club paid a club record transfer fee of £5.8 million to sign him.
In his first season in England, he was excellent, helping Brentford to the Championship playoff final, where they unfortunately lost. However, that year, Mbeumo cemented his place as a top player in the English game, scoring 17 goals, and providing seven assists. He was the EFL Men’s Player of the Year.
After their near miss in 2020, Brentford did manage to achieve promotion in 2021, and Mbeumo was a big part of said promotion. He scored eight goals, and provided 13 assists for Thomas Frank’s side, and will now get a chance in the Premier League.
The Bees recruited well in the summer of 2021, and Mbeumo continued to develop a strong striker partnership with Ivan Toney. Brentford survived relegation under Frank, with Mbeumo scoring eight goals, and providing seven assists in his first year in the Premier League.
After that, Mbeumo became a star, and, not to mention, a favourite for any FPL players out there. In the 2022/23 season, the Cameroon international scored nine goals, and eight assists, and he continued to get better, as in the following year, Mbeumo scored nine goals and seven assists.
Heading into the 2024/25 season, many believed that it would be the attacker’s last season at Brentford, and so it proved to be as there was reported interest from Man United, Spurs and Newcastle United. He said farewell to the Bees with his best season yet, scoring 20 goals, and providing nine assists.
This led to a transfer of £71 million to Manchester United, and he will now hope to continue his incredible development as he looks to help Amorim bring the Red Devils back to where they should be.
