Madrid chief plays down De Gea rumours

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has played down rumours that his club will make a summer move for David de Gea.

Los Blancos have been heavily linked with the Spanish shot-stopper in recent years, and famously missed out on securing his signature back in 2015 due to a ‘faulty fax machine’.

And it was widely expected Madrid would go in again for De Gea this summer after yet another terrific season for the Spaniard, however Perez believes Madrid have all the resources they need between the sticks in their current number one, Keylor Navas.

“This club has had a very important gesture as it is to name one of our players, Keylor Navas, honorary partner,” he said at a fans event last week.

“I want to tell you, Keylor, that you have won the love and affection of all the Madridistas.

“Simply, because you earned it with your talent, that you have a lot, and also with your professionalism, but also with your behaviour, because you have identified a lot with our values. You work a lot and you will be with us for many years.”

De Gea’s current contract at Old Trafford runs until the summer of 2019.
