Lyon Looking Likely Destination For Memphis

So the future of Manchester United winger Memphis Depay is still yet to be resolved as Jose Mourinho has clearly said that he will not play for the club until it is sorted out. According to the Express the front-runners to sign the Dutch international is French club Lyon who according to reports have made a trio of bids with the most recent being for €17million made this past Tuesday. The French club are hoping they can come together on the price for the forward as they are very keen to add him to their squad.

When discussing the possibility of Memphis moving to France last week, Lyon coach Bruno Genesio had this to say:

“Things are progressing. We keep on working. It takes time, discussions … because recruiting a player now is not easy. I trust the president to get things done quickly.

“I have put a priority on Memphis Depay. He is a powerful player who scores goals and is good at set-pieces. Rachid [Ghezzal] has left for the Africa Nations Cup and Memphis knows how to play out wide.

“He is a young player with great international experience and a lot of potential. This is my number one priority.

“I’m a fan of this player, he has an interesting profile for us, especially as we risk losing Rachid at the end of the season. But there are several things to consider, including the price.”

As we know Memphis has only made 4 appearances in the Premier League as a substitiute and made just 1 start vs Northampton in the EFL Cup so it is understandable that the player wants to leave. Everton had been strongly inked with making a move for Memphis but according to reports they believe he would prefer to play outside the Premier League. Time will tell but United should get full value for the starlet if they are to let him move on.
