Luke Shaw slams “horrendous” Manchester United after shocking West Ham defeat

Luke Shaw says Manchester United were “horrendous” against West Ham and that it is the players who must take responsibility for the “awful” performance.

Jose Mourinho’s side ended an already miserable week in the worst possible fashion as they were swept aside 3-1 by West Ham at the London Stadium on Saturday.

The defeat was the club’s third of the Premier League season already, meaning this is now their worst start to a top flight campaign in 29 years.

“It was not good enough from a Manchester United team with all the talent we have,” said Shaw, 23.

“We didn’t look like a team that was going to beat West Ham.

“If you want the truth I think it was honestly horrendous. I think individually and as a team we were awful.”

Earlier this week, United crashed out of the Carabao Cup at the hands of Championship side Derby County, and last weekend they were held to a 1-1 draw by newly promoted Wolves.

Jose Mourinho has faced the brunt of criticism from fans and pundits for his side’s poor form, however Shaw believes the Portuguese is not to blame, and instead believes it should be the players who need take responsibility.

Shaw added: “We have to look at ourselves as players. We’re the ones who go on the pitch. The manager isn’t on the pitch, is he?

“Games like this [at West Ham] we should be dominating, creating chances, showing people why we deserve to play for Manchester United.

“It was very poor from us. Very, very poor.”
