Lukaku Responds To Claims That He Had Bust Up With United Team Mate

Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku has denied claims that he confronted Paul Pogba after the final whistle about the Frenchman’s decision to take the penalty against Southampton.

Lukaku was on a hat-trick at the time and reports surfaced following the game that he had a stern conversation with Pogba asking why he wasn’t given the chance to take it.

Taking to Twitter this morning, the Belgian international suggested the story was a complete fabrication:

Lukaku was asked about the penalty incident after the game, with the striker saying that he was fully supportive of his teammate taking the spot-kick:

“I am a striker and I wanted Paul Pogba to score the penalty, he has been on a good run but he has been an important player for us.”

Despite the penalty being missed, it didn’t prove to be crucial to the outcome of the game with United coming out 3-2 winners.

Pogba will be missing for the Red Devils when they face Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League tomorrow evening. The midfielder is suspended after being sent off in the first leg.

United head into the game 2-0 down and they will be hoping for some inspiration from Lukaku with the striker having now scored four in his last two games.
