Luis Figo Rates Fernandes’s Chances Of Succeeding At United

Portugal legend Luis Figo has backed his fellow countryman Bruno Fernandes to be a success at Manchester United, but he has warned that the 25-year-old will need time to adapt to the Premier League.

The £68m signing from Sporting Lisbon is expected to make his second appearance against Chelsea this evening after making his debut in the 0-0 draw against Wolves before the winter break. When asked about what fans should expect from the 25-year-old, Figo said that they will be getting a midfielder with an eye for goal:

“He is one of the best football players in Portugal. He is in the international team, a midfielder that can score. He has the quality to [score a] goal and to be in the box. I think it was a good buy, I just hope that he can adapt as soon as possible to a different league.”

Former United striker Dimitar Berbatov has previously raised concerns about Fernandes’s lack of physicality and this is probably one of the main areas where the Portuguese star will need to improve.

However, with his goal and assist record in recent seasons, supporters should be expecting the midfielder to deliver in front of goal, and create the type of chances that have been few and far between for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side so far this campaign.
