Lingard hails ‘amazing’ England victory after Three Lions thrash Panama in record fashion

Jesse Lingard has hailed England’s 6-1 win over Panama yesterday afternoon as ‘amazing’, and believes the Three Lions can go all the way in Russia.

Gareth Southgate’s men swept Panama aside in devastating fashion at the Nizhny Novgorod Stadium, with Lingard at the heart of the performance.

John Stones opened the scoring after just eight minutes, before Harry Kane made it 2-0 half way through the first period – converting a penalty won by Lingard.

Lingard himself added a spectacular third – without doubt one of the goal’s of the tournament so far – before John Stones added his second with just over 40 minutes gone.

Harry Kane struck again from the spot to make it 5-0 before half-time, before the Spurs striker completed his hat-trick early in the second period with a fortunate deflection from Ruben Loftus-Cheek’s strike.

Lingard’s goal was his first ever at a World Cup, and only his second ever in an England shirt, and the Manchester United midfielder has described the feeling of being involved in the Three Lion’s biggest ever win at a major tournament.

Jesse told BBC Sport: It is an amazing feeling to score, even better that we won. We are top of the table and can go into the Belgium game with confidence. It is great to be around the lads, there is a great team spirit at the moment.

“Of course [England can go all the way] with the squad we have got and the confidence flowing I don’t see why not, but we will take it game by game.

Lingard next take on Belgium on Thursday in their final game of the group stages.
