Lindelof believes World Cup has helped him grow

Manchester United defender Victor Lindelof believes that this summer’s World Cup has had a hugely positive impact on his career.

The 24-year-old played a starring role in Sweden’s route to the quarter-finals, their highest finish in the tournament since 1958, and earned praise from all around the globe.

Lindelof has had a tough time at Old Trafford since making his £40m move last summer, failing to nail down a regular place in the starting line-up and was often linked with a loan move away.

However, after his brilliance at the World Cup, there is a new sense of optimism surrounding the player – and his performance against Leicester on the opening day showed he has gained all sorts of confidence over the summer.

Now, with the experience he’s gained from playing in a World Cup, Lindelof hopes he can continue his good form and push for a constant place in Mourinho’s team.

“Of course, you’re playing against great players and great nations so it was a great experience for me. I’ll remember it for a long time,” Lindelof told manutd.com.

“It was a good summer for me.

“First I got married and that was great, I had an amazing time and then after that I played the World Cup and that was also a great experience for me to be involved in that.

“After a good rest, I’m back here and ready for what’s to come. It’s always nice to get a good start, as that gives you more confidence and you can be more relaxed.”
