Leicester slap monster price tag on Manchester United target

Leicester City have said they will demand in excess of £75 million for striker Jamie Vardy, leading to Manchester United to abandon their chase for the England international, reports the IB Times.

Jose Mourinho was thought to have identified Vardy as one of three attacking targets this month with his side struggling to find the net as of late.

Summer signing Romelu Lukaku, despite his electric start to the season, has had a difficult few months and it was hoped Vardy would provide some healthy competition, or perhaps even a partner, for the struggling Belgian.

However, the Foxes now want more than United paid for Lukaku for their star striker, meaning he would cost the Red Devils in excess of £75 million should they wish to lure him to Old Trafford.

Leicester are keen to hold on to the ex-Fleetwood Town star, and would only let him leave should an extraordinary offer come their way.

Vardy helped Leicester City to win the 2015/16 Premier League title, and turned down a move to Arsenal the following summer.

The 30-year-old is the Foxes top scorer this season with 10 goals.

United have also been linked with a move for Vardy’s team-mate Riyad Mahrez, who is also being eyed by Chelsea, Arsenal and Barcelona.
