Latest Manchester United Injury Report: Updates On Pogba, Martial, Van De Beek And Cavani

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says he is hopeful of having up to five players back in contention for Thursday’s Europa League clash against AC Milan.

The most likely to return is Anthony Martial, with the Frenchman having had to sit out the 1-0 win over West Ham at the weekend, after sustaining a hip injury in the first leg versus the Rossoneri last week.

David De Gea should also be back in contention. The club’s number one returned from paternity leave last week and he is likely to be back in the matchday squad for the trip to Italy.

Paul Pogba and Donny van de Beek’s involvement is slightly harder to predict. Solskjaer said “maybe” when speaking about the pair’s possible inclusion in the travelling party for the Milan game.

However, Pogba has not featured since picking up a hamstring injury in early February against Everton, while van de Beek has been struggling with a muscular problem since the 1-1 draw versus West Brom last month.

Edinson Cavani‘s situation is slightly different. The Uruguayan was also placed in the “maybe” category by Solskjaer, but the striker hasn’t been out for as long, having started against Crystal Palace a couple of weeks ago. If he can recover from a knock, he could make the bench on Thursday.

With regards to Juan Mata, it is believed that the Spaniard has a better chance of returning after the international break so a comeback versus Brighton on 4th April could be a possibility. However, Phil Jones’ troublesome knee injury, which has kept him out since the summer, could well rule him out of the remainder of the season, with Solskjaer not sounding too optimistic the last time he was asked about the defender.
