La Liga Club’s President Shuts Down Talk That 113M Star Could Move To United

Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo has dismissed speculation linking Joao Felix with a move away from the Wanda Metropolitano.

The Spanish press have recently linked the Portuguese international with moves to Manchester United, Arsenal, Newcastle and Liverpool but Cerezo says the striker is not for sale:

“He is a magnificent player I think he does not want to go. For us he is non-transferable. We bet on him as in his day we bet with Agüero.”

Atletico signed Felix for a club-record £113m back in 2019 but there has been speculation over the past few weeks that manager Diego Simeone would be prepared to sell him in order to fund moves for other players.

The rumours have gained momentum due to the fact that the 22-year-old has not started a match for Atletico since the 2-0 defeat to Liverpool in the Champions League at the beginning of November.

Felix was sidelined with a muscular injury for some of that period, but he has been a substitute in the three matches since his return to full fitness.

From what Cerezo says, though, it appears that the forward remains a key part of the La Liga club’s long-term plans.
