“Keep An Eye…” Ben Jacobs Reveals United Are Pursuing 53M Rated Spanish Playmaker Who Rejected Arsenal Last Month

Zubimendi

Manchester United and Tottenham are keeping tabs on Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi, according to CBS Sports journalist Ben Jacobs.

The Spanish international is believed to have rejected a move to Arsenal during the January transfer window, but Jacobs claims a transfer to the Premier League could still be on the cards next summer, with the player having a release clause:

“A transfer is very possible come [the] summer, especially considering Zubimendi wasn’t willing to have his release clause raised. That makes him attainable on the market. Barcelona coach Xavi also admires Zubimendi, though it remains to be seen if the finances are workable to proceed. Keep an eye on Tottenham and Manchester United as well.”

Zubimendi’s buyout fee is believed to be set at €60m (£53m), which is a very reasonable fee for a 23-year-old, who has been capped by his country.

The midfielder has been linked with a switch to Old Trafford before as a potential alternative for Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong and, as Jacobs mentions, it seems they may have to fight the La Liga side for Zubimendi’s signature.

With Marcel Sabitzer likely to return to Bayern Munich when his loan deal expires in the summer, a replacement will be considered and Zubimendi appears to be among the shortlist of candidates being looked at.
