Keane Slams United Pair For The Part They Played In Southampton Goal

Manchester United legend Roy Keane was not happy with the roles that Fred and David De Dea played in Southampton’s second goal yesterday afternoon.

The Red Devils won the game 3-2 after Edinson Cavani’s important brace in the second half but they had to recover from 2-0 down. Keane was frustrated with how Fred conceded a cheap free-kick which allowed James Ward-Prowse to score and he was not particularly impressed by De Gea’s goalkeeping:

“Fantastic set-piece, the pace he gets on it and the accuracy, he’s certainly one of the best in Europe at the moment with that type of delivery. I’d be disappointed with my goalkeeper but I’d be more annoyed with Fred for being really lazy, sloppy. You know giving away free kicks in that area is like giving away a penalty.”

Fred is certainly a very frustrating player to watch at times. For the most part at St Mary’s, the Brazilian had a pretty decent game but he is prone to lapses of concentration in possession or stupid mistakes as we saw for the foul.

De Gea’s form also remains a concern. The Spaniard’s save percentage is a woeful 61.1% this campaign, a huge drop on previous seasons, and Dean Henderson will be keen to make the most of his chance if the knee injury that United’s no.1 suffered against the Saints keeps him out for a game or two.
