Juventus hoping to beat Man United and Arsenal to signature of World Cup star

Juventus are hoping to beat both Manchester United and Arsenal to Russia international Aleksandr Golovin, according to reports.

Golovin drew the attention of a host of Europe’s biggest clubs with his performances for CSKA Moscow last season, in which he managed seven goals and three assists.

The 22-year-old’s form has improved further with Russia at the World Cup, the midfielder managing a goal and two assists in the opening two games to help his country to an explosive start to the tournament with 5-0 and 3-1 wins over Saudi Arabia and Egypt respectively.

And following his form at the World Cup, Juventus are now planning to move as soon as possible for the highly rated youngster to avoid a bidding war for his signature later in the summer.

Juve are already believed to have opened talks with CSKA over a potential transfer, offering around €18 million for his services, as well as a sell on-clause to offer the Russian club any percentage of any future transfer fee.

CSKA however are likely to hold out for around €25 million.

Both Manchester United and Arsenal are also eyeing Golovin, with both sides keen to bolster the options in midfield ahead of the new season.

United boss Jose Mourinho praised Golovin for his performance against Saudi Arabia last week, saying: “I think Alan Dzagoev was playing quite well but when he came out, the fact that Golovin could go to a more central position, I think it helped the team.

“The team became better. Golovin is a playmaker, he’s a player that gives the dynamic of the team.”
