Manchester United won’t bring in a “super expensive” goalkeeper like Porto’s Diogo Costa this summer, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.
The Red Devils have been heavily linked with the Portuguese international in recent months but, speaking to the United Stand, Romano has played down any suggestions that the Red Devils will go big in the transfer market for a new no.1:
“I don’t expect #mufc to go for a super expensive goalkeeper this summer, like Diogo Costa. Maybe an opportunity for a keeper with good skills to create competition.” [@FabrizioRomano, United Stand YT]

Fans on Twitter are pretty disappointed by this latest development and many assume that, if United do sign a new keeper, it will be someone like Brentford’s David Raya:
Just not a ambitious club anymore

I swear I’m not being reactionary, but with potentially mainoo and iqbal coming thru I’d get a GK #1 then a midfielder

I will rather keep David De Gea than sign Diogo Costa, I watched him play for Portugal 🇵🇹 at d world cup and i wasn't impressed with what i saw, he's just overrated, Man United should scout for good goal keepers abeg, can't we sign that Croatia 🇭🇷 goal keeper?? #mufc

With Dean Henderson expected to leave Old Trafford, and manager Erik ten Hag having publicly said that he wants David De Gea to stay and sign a new contract, it looks more and more likely that the Red Devils will be looking for a new number two or perhaps someone who can at least give De Gea a run for his money.
Raya would be a good shout, although Chelsea and Tottenham have also been mentioned as possible destinations for the Spaniard. Another potential target is Dinamo Zagreb’s Dominik Livakovic who was suggested as an option last month.
