June is crucial for Man United as they must kickstart their summer

Manchester United have endured a difficult start to the summer transfer window, with the Red Devils missing out on big names and losing key players within their side in the process.

The club confirmed yesterday that Zlatan Ibrahimovic will not be extending his stay at Old Trafford after a serious injury picked up in the final months of the campaign left the Swedish veteran out of action until 2018.

Manchester United’s plan was to initially offer Ibrahimovic a 12-month extension to his deal, after he netted 28 goals in his debut season in English football, but the injury dashed their plans and put pressure on Jose Mourinho’s side this summer.

The loss of Ibrahimovic was a lot to cope with on it’s own but news then followed that Antoine Griezmann, who Manchester United were very public in their pursuit of, would not be leaving Atletico Madrid- and it seems the Red Devils are also set to miss out on the services of Everton’s Romelu Lukaku.

Last season showed that Manchester United need big signings in key areas and the Red Devils need to act swiftly, as rivals Manchester City have already secured Bernardo Silva and goalkeeper Ederson- making their intent clear for the new campaign.

Elsewhere, Arsenal have been linked with high profile moves, as have defending champions Chelsea, and Manchester United now need to respond- and it means deals need to be pushed over the line before the end of June.

Current reports speculate that Manchester United are pushing for the services of Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata and Torino’s Andrea Belotti, whilst the Red Devils are also confident of signing Victor Lindelof from Benfica.

Come the end of the month, Manchester United really should have at least one of these deals completed and should make significant progress towards further signings- which would allow the new recruits to settle during the pre-season campaign, which should help them cope in their debut season in the Premier League.

Manchester United’s pre-season campaign kicks-off on July 15th against LA Galaxy in the United States, in the first of seven pre-season matches that also sees the Red Devils play across the USA, in Norway and in Ireland.

Clashes against Real Madrid, Barcelona and Manchester City are set to take place during the summer tour and it leaves Manchester United with a very busy, and very difficult, pre season campaign- which leaves little room for slip-ups.

Signings need to be made before the tour kicks-off, especially as the difficult array of fixtures means there won’t be an easing in period for any new faces and they’re set to be thrown into the deep end immediately.
