Journalist Says United Are “Favourites” To Seal £70M Deal After Star “Definitively Rejected” Move To PL Rival

Manchester United are the red hot “favourites” to snap up Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount after he “definitively rejected” a move to Liverpool, according to Relevo journalist Jorge Picon.

Jurgen Klopp’s side, along with Arsenal, were said to be battling for the 24-year-old’s services but Picon claims there is only one team that the player wants to join now:

Chelsea’s asking price for Mount remains a big obstacle

While it appears that the England international has his heart set on a move to Old Trafford, negotiations with his club are unlikely to go smoothly.

At the moment, the Blues are sticking stubbornly to their £70m valuation and they are refusing to discuss a lower price.

With Erik ten Hag’s side reportedly valuing Mount at around £50m to £55m, it does appear that this could well be a long, drawn-out negotiation.

United may have to play a dangerous waiting game to sign Mount this summer

This could be a case of who is going to blink first. Chelsea don’t want to let Mount leave for nothing and, with his contract set to expire next year, they will be forced into selling him at some point.

However, United will be hoping to get the deal done soon, whilst they have an agreement in place with the player and no serious rivals for his signature.

If they leave things too long, there is a concern that some other club could swoop in and pay the price tag that Chelsea want. It will be interesting to see how this plays out over the coming days and weeks.
