Journalist Reveals United Have “Joined” Chelsea In Race To Sign 8M Rated Ligue One Star

Manchester United have “joined” Chelsea in pursuing Lens right-back Jonathan Clauss, according to the Evening Standard journalist Nizaar Kinsella.

The 29-year-old is out of contract at the end of next season and Kinsella reports that Lens’ will let the France international leave for just £8m, which is attracting interest from a whole host of clubs:

As Kinsella mentions, United’s interest in Clauss is dependent on the Manchester club selling a player first. The Red Devils are open to offloading Aaron Wan-Bissaka but, so far, no team have made a bid for the fullback.

Erik ten Hag’s side are, though, at risk of losing out on Clauss if they don’t move quickly. Marseille have already had a £6m bid turned down, while Atletico Madrid could step up their pursuit of the player as well.

For Lens last season, Clauss exclusively played as a wingback, and he is a very attack-minded player, so he would undoubtedly fit into ten Hag’s system if he were to move to Old Trafford.
