Journalist Reveals Chelsea Remain Interested In Snapping Up “Unsettled” United Ace

Chelsea are “keeping an eye” on Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford, according to journalist Simon Phillips.

The England international has still not signed a new contract and Phillips, who is usually reliable when it comes to the Blues, claims Rashford is still on the London club’s radar:

“Off the back of Thomas Tuchel’s recommendation, Chelsea looked at Rashford as an option in the summer. His contract situation is an interesting one, and he has been unsettled since Cristiano Ronaldo’s arrival. I’m told Chelsea are still keeping an eye on the situation still now, even after Tuchel’s departure.”

It should be pointed out that even though Rashford’s contract does expire in June, United can unilaterally extend his stay for another year, so he effectively has just over eighteen months remaining on his current deal. If Ronaldo‘s presence is an issue, that won’t be a problem now, with the Portuguese striker having left Old Trafford.

The main stumbling block in getting the 24-year-old to extend for the long term, though, is likely to be his salary. The forward already earns £200,000 a week and United are probably reluctant to hand him a sizeable pay rise considering he has only recently returned to form.
