Journalist Predicts “Big Developments” In The Next “24 Or 48 Hours” As United Line Up Swoop For 39M Rated Defender

De Telegraaf journalist Marcel van der Kraan expects there will be a bid from Manchester United for Ajax’s Lisandro Martinez very soon.

The Dutch reporter claims that United boss Erik ten Hag has made signing the defender a top priority and the Red Devils are likely to make their move imminently:

“Martinez is very high on Erik ten Hag’s wishlist, so I expect big developments in the 24 or 48 hours. Martinez will also have his hopes pinned on United, who are an absolute top club for him. Ajax will really cash out for Martinez and go to €45-50m, but that is the advantage if two clubs bid, as we saw with Lyon and Manchester United, then it suddenly goes higher.”

Arsenal are also said to be determined to secure Martinez’s signature, having reportedly made a second bid for the Argentinian of around €40m (£34.6m) in recent days.

It still falls short of Ajax’s €45m (£39m) to €50m (£43m) valuation, though, so United will be confident they can swoop in and secure the centre-back’s signature if they meet the asking price.

The Red Devils are seemingly accelerating their efforts to sign players after a slow start to the summer. Deals for Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong and Feyenoord’s Tyrell Malacia are expected to be finalised shortly, while moves for other targets are also believed to be in the works.
