Manchester United are among the clubs that “admire” West Ham captain Declan Rice but they are not one of the “frontrunners” to sign the player, according to CBS Sports reporter Ben Jacobs.

The Red Devils have been mentioned as potential suitors for the England international in the past, although the links have died down recently. Jacobs says Erik ten Hag‘s side remain interested but Arsenal are the team leading the race to snap him up:

“West Ham are resigned to losing Declan Rice, so there will be a summer sale because Rice wants either Champions League football or a club that he knows over time he can get Champions League football with.”

“And there are those outside of Chelsea and Arsenal that admire Declan Rice, Manchester United and Newcastle United, but I think Arsenal feel like they are the frontrunners and Chelsea are going to be very seriously in the race as well because Rice has always been a long-standing priority.”

United are expected to be in the market for a midfielder this summer, especially if Marcel Sabitzer’s loan switch isn’t made into a permanent move.

However, Rice (who is reportedly valued at around £75m to £85m) is unlikely to be ten Hag’s priority. There have been suggestions that the Dutchman could reignite a move for Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong.

The 25-year-old was a target for ten Hag last summer but, despite the player previously rejecting United’s advances, it could be something that is revisited at the end of this season.
