Journalist Claims United’s Move For Ajax Star Could Stall Due To 34M Transfer Demand From Chelsea

Manchester United are likely to face another complication in their attempts to sign Ajax winger Antony, according to De Telegraaf journalist Mike Verweij.

Erik ten Hag’s side are lining up an offer in the region of €94m (£79m) for the Brazilian international but Ajax may only let him leave if they can secure a replacement before the transfer window shuts.

The Eredivisie side’s top target is Chelsea’s Hakim Ziyech. The Blues signed the Moroccan from Ajax for €44m a couple of years ago, but it was assumed that the London club would be prepared to take a loss on the player to sell him back this summer.

However, Verweij claims that Thomas Tuchel’s side want around €40m (£34m) to offload Ziyech, which could also spell “bad news” for Antony’s move to Old Trafford.

If Ajax can’t find a compromise with Chelsea, they are “unlikely” to sanction any sales as they don’t want to unnecessarily weaken their squad. United will have to hope that Chelsea drop their demands for Ziyech in the coming days.
